Youth Support Service- Drop in centre
Drop‐in Centre
Our open drop‐in centre for service users primarily focuses on engaging with impoverished and disengaged young people to help them integrate back into mainstream society through a series of innovative health, social, educational and recreational projects. Through this we are able to provide a platform and a neutral environment for young people to freely express themselves. Our qualified youth workers deliver short and long term projects on life skills, personal and social development, as well as help to deliver some accredited courses. They are always at hand in providing regular Information, advice and guidance as well as practical support that allow young people to make informed decisions about issues affecting their lives. Young people are also able to make use of and have access to our IT facilities, whether it is for writing up a CV or for extra curricular studies. Drop in centre caters for young people of 8 to 25 for both girls and boys from the local borough and surrounding areas. So far our drop‐in centres have attracted people of all different backgrounds, from different localities (some regular users of which are from outside RBKC). This displays our centre as a true community melting pot reflecting the borough’s rich diversity.
Employment & Training
During the drop‐in sessions, we offered employment opportunities and training for young people. We targeted those who are not in education, employment or training, those at risk of engaging in criminality, drug abuse and anti‐social behaviour, and school leavers with no or low qualifications. We worked in partnership with local external agencies, RBKC Children’s services, Connexions, youth forums, West way supplementary school forum, who fed us information, so that our development workers could promote the employment and training on offer.
We offer: Pre‐apprenticeship‐Vocational Trainin‐Interview preparatio‐Workshops about future careers
We organise short presentation once a month with various professionals who are also localresidents to give an insight into their work.
The employment program has helped young people go into employment ranging from the health and fitness sector, to customer service and administration
